Wooden Bat Cla

Bob Wagner’s 23rd Annual Wooden Bat Classic will take place at historic Terry Park in Fort Myers, Florida Jan. 21-26, 2019.  We are looking forward to another great week played by the boys of summer in the dead of winter in one of Florida’s premier year-round vacation destinations.

Both the Cy Young and Red Oldham divisions will begin play on Monday, January 21st.  Each team in each division is guaranteed a minimum of seven 8-inning games.  The final schedule, including playoff and championship games, will be determined based on the number of teams playing in the tournament.

Information regarding official Wooden Bat hotel partners will be announced as it becomes available.  If 2019 is anything like recent years, there will be at least 30 different hotels found in a variety of locations, such as the beach, airport, shopping and urban areas.  Check the hotels page periodically for updated information.

Our annual dinner will likely take place on Tuesday, January 22nd at the Terry Park picnic pavilion and catered by Laura Heron and her company Home Run Concessions.  Laura has been a part of the WBC family for over 10 years and does an outstanding job with our dinner and with the concession stand during the week.  Once your team has completed the final game of the day head straight over to the picnic pavilion and have some dinner.  Typically, half of the teams will have dinner about 3 p.m. and the teams playing the last game of the day will be served about 6 p.m.  You will know well in advance as to the day and time your team will have dinner.  Please plan to join us.

The 7th annual Southwest Florida Spring Fling took place back in April.  The Spring Fling is held annually at the Player Development Complex (PDC) in Fort Myers as an informal tune-up for those players and teams about to begin their spring seasons up north.  We offer full locker room services, catered lunches, continental breakfast, seven 7-inning games, athletic trainer and massage therapist, post-game refreshments and more.  The 2019 dates are April 3-7 so now is the time to make your plans for next spring.

In conclusion, Bob Wagner’s Wooden Bat Classic’s official charity, Tri-County Challenger Baseball, is a wonderful organization geared towards making baseball available to those children and adults who are mentally and physically challenged.  The Wooden Bat Classic is proud to be Challenger Baseball’s primary contributor of funds to cover much-needed equipment, uniforms, insurance, awards and so much more.  This January our WBC teams donated a total of $5,235 to Challenger.  Please come out to Terry Park on the morning of Saturday the 26th to watch and take part in the annual Challenger Baseball exhibition.  You will be inspired, humbled and very happy you participated.

See you in January!
